Biography
Christopher Dwayne Tomlin was born in 1972 in Grand Saline, Texas, to Donna and Connie Tomlin. He has two younger brothers named Ryan and Cory. His father gave him his first guitar, and he learned to play by listening to Willie Nelson albums.
At the age of fourteen, Tomlin wrote his first worship song, and he began leading worship in his youth group during high school. After graduating from Grand Saline High School in 1990, he enrolled in Tyler Junior College (TJC) with plans to pursue a medical or physical therapy career. Eventually, he earned a degree in psychology from Texas A&M.
Tomlin is part of CompassionArt, a charity and songwriting team that released an album in 2008. In 2014, he joined the board of directors of CURE International, a nonprofit organization providing medical care to children in the developing world.
In May 2008, Tomlin announced his departure from Austin Stone Community Church to co-found a new church in Atlanta, Georgia, with Louie Giglio. The Passion City Church had its inaugural service on February 15, 2009, with Tomlin serving as one of its worship leaders.
