Biography

Andy Stanley, born Charles Andrew Stanley on May 16, 1958, hails from Atlanta, Georgia. His parents are Charles Stanley and Anna J. Stanley. Charles Stanley is the senior pastor of Atlanta’s First Baptist Church. Andy stands at 1.70m tall and weighs 77 kg.

Growing up, Andy believed his parents, Charles and Anna Stanley, were an ideal couple. However, in the 10th grade, he discovered their relationship was troubled. Despite seeking help from therapists and counselors, the marriage couldn’t be saved.

Andy had never witnessed his parents fighting until his mother left, avoiding his father’s church ceremonies. When Andy became the pastor of a satellite church appointed by his father, he realized their marriage was failing.

In June 1993, Anna Stanley filed for divorce, causing controversy among Southern Baptists who consider divorce a sin. Andy’s relationship with his father also deteriorated, and they started to compete despite being ministry partners.

They attended each other’s churches, and their strained relationship was caught on camera. Fortunately, they reconciled before Charles Stanley’s passing in April 2023.

Today, Andy Stanley is the senior pastor of North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, which he founded in 1995.

Education

Stanley earned a master’s degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Georgia State University.

Family

Stanley is married to Sandra Stanley. The couple got married and now lives outside of Atlanta, GA, with their three adult children.

Their first child, Allison Stanley, has been passionate about theater since childhood. She is currently a student at the University of Central Florida, majoring in theatrical studies and history.

Garrett Stanley is pursuing a technical engineering degree at both Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. Thanks to Andy’s love and support, the family is incredibly close.

Ministry

In 1995, Stanley founded North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Andy Stanley started his career at First Baptist Atlanta as an assistant pastor and student minister. Later, in 1995, he and his friends initiated North Point Community Church.

North Point Community Church, with six active campuses, is one of the largest congregations in the country. Some Atlanta churches under its umbrella include Buckhead Church, Browns Bridge Church, Woodstock City Church, Gwinnett Church, Decatur City Church, and East Cobb Church.

Besides preaching, Andy Stanley is a writer and the creator of various organizations. He has authored nearly 20 books covering topics like love, life, and religion.

Some of his works include “Better Decisions, Fewer Regrets,” “The New Rules for Love, Sex, and Dating,” “Ask It,” “How to Be Rich,” “Deep & Wide,” “Enemies of the Heart,” “When Work & Family Collide,” “Visioneering,” “Next Generation Leader,” and “Irresistible.” Since 2012, his television show, “Your Move with Andy Stanley,” has been on air.
